Solo circumnavigation of the British Isles.

A lot of support and planning goes in to organising an expedition of this sort but once Andy crosses the start line he'll be completely unaided. Survival will be down to him and the equipment that he has onboard.
Here you'll find more details about the growing list of kit and provisions required for the challenge and how you can support the Round Britain Row.

Rannoch Adventure are the leading experts in ocean rowing design and construction.

When it comes to all things for an ocean adventure there is no better place to turn to than Charlie and his team of salty sea dogs.

(Hopefully this won't end like Moby Dick)

This is the Rannoch R15 off shore rowing boat, measuring just 7 metres from bow to stern, she will be home for the duration of the challenge.

Although the boat may have the appearance of a simple canoe, it's packed with technology to allow the rower to survive and navigate at sea.
The boat is fitted with a water desalinator that turns sea water into fresh(ish) drinking water.

200 watt solar panels power
a 12 volt gel battery system that will power the navigation and comms equipment.

Unsurprisingly the boat itself is the major expense. These specialist vessels cost upwards of £50,000 new. So Andy trawled the second hand market for more affordable options.

What he found was this Rannoch R15. The boat was built in 2015 and already has one Atlantic crossing under her belt. Fortunately he couldn't be in better hands (or Hulls).

Rannoch's unique design and construction has a reputation for being the best in the business, with a proven pedigree for setting records with ocean crossings.
The Rannoch R15 is specifically designed for the task, an uncompromisingly safe and speedy boat, perfect for purists and the inexperienced ocean rower alike.

A stern cabin measuring 6X3ft is the rowers only protection from the elements and home for the duration. It's a very cosy shelter from stormy weather.
In the event that the boat is capsized in heavy seas it "should" self-right, providing that all the water tight hatches are sealed.
Fun Fact # 3 - The volume of the living quarters cabin is 43 ft 3
Fun Fact # 4 - The volume of a red telephone box is 104 ft 3

Fixed Equipment

The boat itself is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to everything required to complete an ocean row.
Loose Equipment

The Rannoch R15 is fitted with some jolly clever kit designed to keep you alive and rowing.
Survival Gear

Should the worst happen, these survival essentials should help keep you safe until rescue can reach you.
Personal Kit

A few essentials and the odd luxury item. This is Andy's desert island disks check list.

Burning at least 8,000 calories a day requires a lot of refuelling. The best available option is freeze-dried expedition rations.

There's lots of ways that you can get involved in the Round Britain Row. If you would like to support the row and our charities then why not have a thumb through the Wish List of supplies that are still needed.

You can club together to buy a piece of kit or purchase a rewards package. If you'd prefer, you can just donate to our charities.
There is a lot of equipment still needed for the Round Britain Row.
If you would like to help please take a look at our GET INVOLVED page.

Fun Fact # 5 - The required 6,000 calories per day is equivalent to 67 bananas, 23 BigMacs or 33 Bowls of Lucky Charms.
